The problem that the democrats face in order to win back the White House is in their type of messaging. They have to change their messaging from one of anger, despair, and victim to one of morality, civility, hope, accomplishments, and ethical criticism. They need to shout out that American has always been great, and will never bow down to those who are out to destroy it. Authoritarians are on the rise both here at home and around the world. The electorates are being seduced by the ultra-right extremists, and to fight back, mainstream politicians and political campaigns need to grasp the causes that sows the seeds of popular discontent and to rebuild democracy’s moral foundation.
2017, THE YEAR THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
(The Beginning of a Political Transformation)
People thought that democracy’s around the world was gaining strength and places like France, Great Britain, and the United States were set in stone. They thought that nothing could change so long as people kept there morals and civility. That was about to change with the election of members of the Tea Party, who were swept into office on a campaign to stop the spending and the flow of money going out. But, shortly after the election, corruption began to rear it’s ugly head with the cutting of social services for the poor, and the tax cuts to the wealthy. These newcomers had no idea on how to run a government and started to change the way politicians work to get their own agenda accomplished. First they began by holding the country hostage by bringing the political system to a complete stand still. Their no-holds barred attitude, however brief it was, brought out the social tensions that have been simmering beneath the surface.
2018 – THE YEAR OF FIRE AND DESTRUCTION
(Gaining a foothold in democracy)
What was set in stone hundreds of years ago, turned out to be very different today. Citizens became disillusioned with politics and government, growing restless, angry, and even disdainful. The two party system have become frozen in time which lends itself to one of the most striking manifestations of democracy with the election of Donald Trump now on it’s second year. The significance of his rise to stardom was made available by the elected strongman, President Vladimir Putin of Russia who along with the aid of Turkey’s elected strongman meddling in the 2016 election, are now starting to request payments for their assistance. They also began to spread their political influence and interference into turning fledging democracies around the world into electoral dictatorships.
2019 – THE YEAR OF PAIN AND SORROW
(Rising to Power of the backs of others)
Trump has succeeded in the rise of authoritarian populists that is spreading around the world, from America to Europe, and from Asia to Australia. Voters who have disliked particular parties, politicians, or government are now fed up with democracy itself. Many populists leaders began using the same playbook to destroy the free media, undermine independent institutions, and muzzle the opposition.
- Poland and Hungary was the first two countries to elect far-right leading candidates, with more countries soon to follow.
- In Austria, a far-right candidate nearly won the country’s presidency, but gain a larger majority in the assembly.
- In France, a rapidly changing political landscape is providing new openings for both the far left and far right.
- In Spain and Greece, established party systems are disintegrating with breathtaking speed.
- Even the supposedly stable and tolerant democracies of Sweden, Germany, and the Netherlands, extremists are celebrating unprecedented successes.
- Even Brazil managed to elect a far-right leader that ran a Trump style campaign.
2020 – THE YEAR OF REVOLUTION
(Reclaiming the Soul of America)
Some of the rules of established governments are formal, a president or prime minister allows the judiciary to investigate wrongdoing by members of his government, even when it is against him, instead of firing the prosecutors and others. He puts up with critical coverage in the press instead of shutting down newspapers, news shows, or persecuting journalists. When he loses an election, he leaves office peacefully instead of clinging to power. There are rules that are informal that makes it less clear-cut when they are violated, for example:
The government does not rewrite electoral rules months before an election to maximize its chance of winning. Political insurgents do not glorify authoritarian rulers of the past, threaten to lock up their opponents or send out to violate the rights of ethnic and religious minorities. The losers of an election refrain from limiting scope of an office to which an adversary has been elected in their last days in the job. The opposition confirms a competent judge whose ideology it dislikes rather than leaving a seat on the highest court in the land vacant, and strikes an imperfect compromise about the budget rather than letting the government shut down.
We are beginning to see what happens when a politics of enemies supplants a politics of adversaries, with the new crop of populists who have stormed the political stage over the past decades shoulder a lot of the blame for this.
2021 – THE YEAR WE TOOK BACK WHAT WAS OURS
(The rebirth of Democracy)
In everyone of the absolute orders of oppression against the press by our president is an absolute order of oppression against the American people by this nature. We will demonstrate and petition in the most humble terms until we are treated as equals amongst our peers.
Should our petitions continue unanswered only to be answered by repeated injury, then a person whose character is thus marked by every act which may be define a tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people. We have been wanting to get the attention of our brothers and sisters by warning them in our daily protest of attempts by their legislature and president to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us.
We have reminded them of the circumstances of our immigration and settlement here, many years ago, and have appealed to their native justice and humanity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow there usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence they too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity.
We must, out of necessity, denounce our current system of government and hold them accountable, as we hold the rest of mankind, either as enemies of war, or friends in peace.
WAKE UP AMERICA, BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE.
